Increase your luck and success with our Gokaku Ramen. ("Gokaku" is Japanese for "passing an exam.") We made this ramen to support the students who visit and pray at the nearby Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, where Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning, is enshrined.
To bring out the best flavors, we removed the impurities in our all natural tonkotsu broth. We also use a unique blend of select wheat flour to make noodles that pair perfeclty with the broth. These special noodles are extra long (59 cm, also sounds like "gokaku" in Japanese) - more than twice the usual length - to wish for loooong years of happiness and luck. Our Original Spicy Red Sauce, an aged chili based sauce with a blend of 30 different spices and ingredients, adds an extra depth to the flavor of the ramen. This auspicous ramen is served in a special 5-sided Gokaku Bowl. (5 is "go" in Japanese.)
The Gokaku Ramen is a unique dish served only at our Dazaifu Sando location. May your luck improve as you savor this delicious bowl of ramen.
From ancient times in Japanese culture, there’s always been a direct association with noodles and longevity and happiness. Being able to eat fresh, beautifully-cooked strands of noodles is a sign of good, healthy life for a long future to come. Longer the noodles, longer the life. “Gokaku” noodles are not shy of this concept, with individual strands of noodles that are 59cm long, more than twice the normal length. It is made and served fresh, making it the longest noodles ICHIRAN serves with the classic tonkotsu soup. May this flavor continue to resonate within you for many long years of fortune.
*The longer noodles may seem a bit unusual at first, but they present a unique texture and are designed to symbolize long years of good luck.
Through many long years of work and research by our ramen experts, we have achieved a secret pork bone broth the delicious flavor of which has been fully brought to the fore. Our pork-based broth is constantly monitored, simmered and skimmed to offer our customers the most authentic and flavorful tonkotsu broth without the strong aroma usually associated with it.
We mix 30 kinds of ingredients with our own blended peppers as a base, and we age it for many days and nights. ICHIRAN was the first to place spicy res sauce directly in the center of its ramen.
This 5-sided ("gokaku") bowl is full of our wishes for you to succeed ("gokaku" in Japanese). Ume flowers, a symbol of Dazaifu, and gokaku ema (wooden plaque to deliver a wish of success to the gods) decorate the edges. Even the word "triumph" is painted on the bottom of the bowl! Drinking the soup from the corner of the bowl is said to bring good luck because the soup slides right in. We made our Gokaku Bowl as prayer for your success. May it bring you even more good fortune and luck.
